Sheriff Matt Spence, Incumbent
Candidate: Sheriff, Sheboygan County

I have served the citizens of Sheboygan County for over 23 years and currently hold the office of Sheriff. Following Sheriff Roeseler’s retirement in 2024, I was appointed to the position by the Governor. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. I received my Law Enforcement Certification from the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy (2nd Class of the Wisconsin Police Corps) and am a graduate of the 281st Session of the FBI National Academy.

Throughout my tenure at the Sheriff’s Office, I have held the positions of Patrol Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant of Patrol, Lieutenant of Criminal Investigations, and Captain of Patrol and Criminal Investigations. I have also been a member or leader within SWAT, Water Safety Patrol, Honor Guard, and Bike Patrol.

As a Unified Tactics Instructor, I maintain certifications in Defensive and Arrest Tactics, Firearms, and Vehicle Contacts. Additionally, I serve as an instructor for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events.

I am deeply committed to community partnership and service. I have proudly served as a liaison for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and coached the local Special Olympics Adult Swim Team for many seasons. Recently, I was appointed to the State Board of Directors for Special Olympics Wisconsin, representing the Badger State Sheriff’s Association. I remain active in various community events and committees, as I believe it is essential to support and give back to the community we serve.
