A Message from RPSC Chair Micah Pearce

Spring Election

Mark your calendar, April 7th. That’s the date of the spring election.

Conservative Judge Maria Lazar is running against Madison liberal activist Chris Taylor. Early in-person voting opens next Tuesday, March 24th. Early voting locations and hours differ by municipality, so reach out to your clerk to find out when you can lock in your vote.

Not sure where to vote or want to see a sample ballot? Go to MyVote.Wi.Gov to find out.

Judge Maria Lazar brings experience and the moral clarity of interpreting the law as it is written. On the other hand, Chris Taylor has spent more time working for Planned Parenthood than serving as a judge. Her main message is a promise to be a pro-abortion activist judge. The choice is clear: vote for Maria Lazar.

You may have already noticed the large 4×8 signs for Maria Lazar popping up across the county—and now yard signs are starting to appear in neighborhoods too!

If you’d like to show your support with a yard sign, they’re available for pickup at our RPSC HQ (1122 Indiana Avenue, Sheboygan, Wisconsin) during open hours: Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:15 AM to 1:00 PM, or send us an email at signs@republicanpartyofsheboygancounty.com.

Stop by, grab a sign, and help spread the word!

Good Bill

While the legislature has gotten a handful of good bills to Evers’ desk, for the sake of time, I will highlight just one.

AB 677 became Act 88 when it was signed into law. This act patches a hole in the law and criminalizes adults grooming children for sexual activity. Amazingly, several Democrats stood up for sexual groomers and voted against this bill. Evers, true to form, signed the bill without fanfare, avoiding giving Republicans a win and providing cover for those on the left who oppose protecting children from sexual grooming.

Bad Bill

Last week, we asked you to contact Senator Devin LeMahieu and urge a NO vote on SB 592 in the Senate.

I’ve long appreciated that bad bills sometimes pass the Assembly but don’t make it through the more conservative Senate. That’s why it is especially disappointing to share that SB 592 did pass the Senate and is now on the Governor’s desk.

As a reminder, this pro-gambling bill allows Wisconsin Tribes to expand into online sports betting. Expanding gambling hurts individuals and families, and the legislature should not have created a sweetheart deal for the tribal lobby.

In my time as chair, I have made it a point not to make unfair criticisms of our representatives. However, I must say that, as Majority Leader, Senator LeMahieu had a chance to kill this bad bill and instead passed it with Democrat support. Traditionally, the Majority Leader does not move a bill unless he has 17 votes within his caucus (or at least close). Republicans were split, with 9 for and 9 against, while 12 Democrats voted for and only 3 against.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak up and stay engaged on this issue. I know many of you contacted Senator LeMahieu’s office to ask him to stand against the gambling lobby.

As a reminder, you can always find your representative’s contact info at Legis.Wisconsin.gov.

RPW Non-Disclosure Agreement Request

One last update: Recently, the RPW Constitutional Committee made a request for all county board members to sign a non-disclosure agreement. I replied with a polite email indicating that we would not be signing. Information security is important, and we treat communications from candidates, officials, and other county parties with care. However, I felt the request was a strange overstep by the Constitutional Committee. It is not appropriate to give the state party leverage to control what I can and cannot share with you all.

Make your plan to vote on or before April 7th,

Micah Pearce
