The Hour is Dark, but the Future is Bright
by Chairman Micah Pearce

I want to begin by saying thank you to the many volunteers who put so much time, effort, and prayer into the spring election. And thank you to all of you who voted and encouraged friends and family to do the same.
Yesterday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court took another leftward turn with Madison liberal and activist judge Chris Taylor defeating Appellate Judge Maria Lazar for the seat. There are many reasons for the outcome: Taylor outspent Lazar 8 to 1, an awkward, muddled campaign by Lazar, and a weird mix of properly attacking Taylor’s bloodthirsty pro-abortion agenda while softening the punch by failing to add moral clarity or a coherent judicial philosophy to the issue. There is a lot more that can be added to the postmortem, but I will summarize my main thoughts here. Republican politics in Wisconsin appears to be trying to exist without a worldview. High-paid consultants coach candidates to say what they believe to be popular and forget to fight for the good, the true, and the beautiful. Principles are higher than politics or personalities, and our party structure has forgotten that. We need to focus on bringing the public towards the truth, not outsmarting what’s true.
But even in a difficult moment, there is reason for hope. I want you to look at this picture from our prayer vigil following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. You don’t see very much of him, but that’s my brother, Ethan.

In my brother’s hand is a hat, and though you can’t see it from this angle, that hat says, “The future is bright.” Without meaning to, I laughed at him and asked, “Why would you buy that?” His answer was simple: because he believes it. More than that—he lives it. Ethan spends multiple nights each week volunteering with youth to build them up and help them remember there is a good God who loves them and has a plan for their lives. Everywhere he goes, he leaves people, places, and things better than he finds them. He knocks on doors for candidates he believes in and encourages his friends to vote on principle. He faithfully advocates for his Christian-conservative values and wins ground with character and persistence.
Ethan’s not alone. Here in Sheboygan County and within our local party, you will find special people living in a special place who give their all to serve God and fight evil. I have one more picture for you. Recently, I had the chance to join our local Teens for Life group to stand up for life outside of Planned Parenthood in Sheboygan. This teen-led group has been faithfully standing for life since I was in it in high school, and they show no signs of stopping anytime soon. These teens will be a huge part of building a better tomorrow.

So, I’ve come to realize that my little brother was wiser than I. The future is bright. The future is bright, and you and I are going to be part of making it bright, and so is the Republican Party of Sheboygan County. The fall election is closer than it seems, and the legislature and the governor’s mansion are on the line. Maybe you’ve been involved before and want to get back in the game, or maybe you want to get in the action for the first time. We’d love to have you. Yesterday’s election was hard, but it is not a reason for despair. Not even for a moment. Politics can’t save you and wouldn’t if it could. Don’t give a part of your heart to politics that belongs to our Risen Savior, Jesus. Many people make that mistake.
